Neighbourhood Plan

The Stinsford Neighbourhood Plan was approved in a referendum of the parish's voters in May 2022, and authorised by Dorset Council in June. The Plan can be seen below.

This has been prepared by local residents and businesses in Stinsford parish, on behalf of Stinsford Parish Council, to help guide the future of development in the parish and to safeguard its special qualities.

The plan has been through several stages of consultation and has been scrutinised by an independent examiner appointed by Dorset Council.  We are pleased to say that the examiner found the plan sound, subject to five small modifications. Stinsford Parish Council amended the plan accordingly and it was approved by residents of the parish in a referendum on Thursday 5th May 2022. The plan was then 'made' (authorised) by Dorset Council at their Cabinet meeting in June.

What is a neighbourhood plan about?

The plan can deal with a range of development issues and can propose local projects. These could include:

  • what gives Stinsford its particular character, and how to safeguard this
  • housing, including its design, and provision of affordable housing
  • green spaces that people value in the parish
  • traffic issues, including cycling routes and traffic black spots
  • social and community facilities, what do we have, what more is needed

What area does the Stinsford Neighbourhood Plan cover?

The plan will cover the whole parish of Stinsford, including the hamlets of Higher and Lower Bockhampton, Higher Kingston, Kingston Maurward park and the fields and water-meadows to the north of Dorchester, up to the Waterston ridge.  You can find the map of the area below.
